Group members nominated for teaching awards

Congratulations to Laura Heels, Chris Napier, Daniel Nesbitt and Bradley read who were all nominated by our students for teaching awards.

Here are some quotes from their nominations:

Laura Heels

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT EMPLOYABILITY

Always went out of their way to help me since first year, here is how they got me a job in London:

I asked them a programming related question very early on in first year. They set up a meeting with another member of staff who nudged me in the right direction. I did a lot of personal projects throughout the year using knowledge from the meeting.

Chris Napier

STUDENT CHOICE AWARD

They have not stopped all academic year, striving to improve every part of the Computer Science degree as they possibly could. On a great deal of occasions they have improved the quality of modules by updating/refreshing content, enriching/incorporating new technologies and finally greatly improving the quality of demonstrators.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO TEACHING (SAgE FACULTY)

They are an amazing lecturer who always manages to make us laugh; they can get the point across about crucial work while still providing an entertaining and interactive lecture.

As a person they are always there for anyone’s problems and are an incredible asset to the school of computing team, they treat those around them with respect and in turn are hugely respected by the students.

They ensure students are treated equally which is an amazing quality as it in turn means students are willing to talk to them openly and know they will be treated with respect and a caring nature

Daniel Nesbitt

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO TEACHING (SAGE FACULTY)

Have volunteered in their own time to put on programming clinics as well as being extremely accommodating with student queries during and after lectures. There is definite sense that they take pride in their work and are willing to go beyond their lecturer position to help students develop their computing skills and knowledge.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO ACADEMIC SUPPORT

They are a very passionate lecturer who takes out their free time to run clinics for those who are struggling. I have gained valuable knowledge from their clinics. They always go an extra mile to help student which is a very important skill. Having a lecturer like them really reinforces my understanding on the subject.

Bradley Read

Always resolved the issues I had, in an efficient way.
Always willing to help and to explain what the problem was and how they  got to a resolution of that problem.
